Undersea birthday

Yesterday, I posted a birthday card for one of my soon-to-be 7 year-olds.  Today, I have the card for the second one.  I used the same paper pack on both cards, so they sort of tie together, though both are completely different other than that, because, well, the girls are completely different.

I colored up the mermaid with a on ombre look on her tail, darker at the end and lightening up into the torso.  Then I added glitter pen to the fins.  I added Glossy Accents to the balloons to give them shine.

Make a wish

My two babies are turning 7 next week!  I can't believe it.  One of them LOVES pumpkin pie so when I saw this pumpkin cupcake image, I just had to use it (plus it is fall, so pumpkins AND leaves are perfect!) and the leaf/acorn cupcake to tie it in with fall.

Comfort

Time for another What If Wednesday? challenge from The House That Stamps Built.  This week we have a color combo for you:

Here's my take:

I went a bit more literal with the gold part; I used gold embossing powder on my gorgeous butterflies.  Then I used a couple different blue and green markers to color in the spots.  I used some yummy polka dotted ribbon that I've had in my stash forever.  I picked some of the marker colors just so I could use it. : )  Head on over to The House blog and see how the rest of the DT has used this color combo.  Then get inky, there's a $25 gift certificate up for grabs this month.  The more you play, the more chances you have to win it.

Kitty Love

I was given this adorable "Covered In Kitties" image from Sami Stamps:

 Ok, I got to pick my image and I chose this one because I am the crazy cat lady.  : )  For some reason, Sami's images always make me need  to paper piece them.  Don't you love the polka dotted shirt?!  I used a lot of bling on this one!  I've had these rhinestone ovals for a looooong time and they just never really fit with anything.  The largest is way too large for the size of card I usually make, but since I made a 5x5 1/2 in. card, it was a good fit.  Yeay, now I've used them up AND created a beautiful card.  I added the blue rhinestones to the banner and the dotted strips and then I added a tiny clear rhinestone for her earring.  Now on to the kitties; at this time we only have three cats. So, I colored 3 of the cats to match the ones I have and then remembered that we had a fourth one 9 years ago (we only had him for a couple months before we lost him).  So the dark gray is my 16-year-old who is a total lap kitty.  The bigger light gray is the kitten we lost; the little gray stripey (you can see her stripes in the next photo) is my newest, she's just over 1 year old, and then there is the big orange stripey.  He's 8 and he accepts love only on his own terms.  Here's a close up so you can see them a bit better.

Praying for you

To create a soft look on this sympathy card, I use some Mulberry paper that I've had in my stash forever!  See my post, here, for the info on this beautiful technique.  It's a little hard to see in the photo, but the yellow panel was stamped with a background image in the same color ink and the edges were inked with the same color.  In real life, it's a very subtle, pretty look.

So, who remembers Mulberry Paper?  You know that stuff you had to have back in the early 2000's?  Now, who has a GIANT stash of it?  Yep, I sure do.  It has been languishing in my paper holder and pretty much just collecting dust for a loooooong time.  But in my travelling around blog land with my DT hat on from Crafty Hazelnut's Christmas Challenge Extra (yep, a shameless little blurb there) I came across this gorgeous card with a fabulous tutorial on how to create the soft mulberry layer.  I had a fun time with the technique this weekend.

Isn't it so soft and beautiful?!  I've also had this ribbon forever!  It's really gorgeous, so I don't know why I haven't used it before.  I think it will make another appearance, soon.
