Sweet Friends

It's Saturday and it's time for another challenge from Di's Digi Designs.  This time it is: Things with Wings, Tails, and/or Feathers.  How fun (and easy) is that?!  Here is my card for your inspiration:
All Di's images are so adorable, and I just love this one.  I just discovered that I am a little behind on my Christmas cards, so from now on, I am going to be featuring as many of them as possible!  For a little extra fun, I decided to crop the images.  I printed out two of the images so I could cut the little girl out of one and the sweet little penguin out of the second.  I die cut the snowflakes out of a holographic glitter card stock.  You can see the sparkle in the photo below.
I hope you will get a chance to play along with us.  I can't wait to see what you create!

Sparkly Christmas

Happy Wednesday!  It's time for another challenge from The House That Stamps Built.  This week we have a gorgeous inspiration photo for you:
Image may contain: 1 person
Don't you just love those colors?  And all those adorable little ornaments?  Of course, I HAD to make a Christmas card.  This is what I came up with:
I started by die cutting the white panel, then I used the same die to cut out the circles from brown/bronze, gold, and pale pink glitter paper .  I heat embossed the sentiment with some really sparkly old embossing powder and then adhered the white panel to the dark pink background.  Then I adhered random circles back into the openings for a fun confetti look.  I finished everything off with a bit of ribbon that's been hanging around for a long time!  This next photo shows all the sparkly goodness of this card.
I hope you will play along with us.  Remember that you now have the entire month to play along with the challenges.  I can't wait to see how this picture inspires you.

Here is my card for your inspiration:
Oh, I love how this one turned out!!  I had cut out all of these circles (with a die!) for a project I will be showing tomorrow and decided it would be fun to use them to create a fun, sparkly card!  I used the negative die cut panel to lay out the circles before I adhered them.  It is so sparkly and gorgeous in real life!  This next picture shows all the sparkle from the glitter paper.   Love it!
Thanks for stopping by, I can't wait to see what you create!

Christmas box

Happy Friday!!  It's time for another challenge from Jo's Scrap Shack.  As always, we are now an Anything Goes challenge and our sponsor for the week is The Cutting Cafe.

I was given the Round Box Template to work with.  It comes with the main box template, but also includes options for a taller box, a taller lid, a solid top and a top with a window.  So many options!  Here is what I created:
I used the standard size box, the larger lid (though now that I'm thinking about it, that is probably really to be used with the taller box, but it worked for me.) with the window option.   I stamped a strip of white paper with the snowflakes and adhered the strip to the sides of the box before assembling everything.
Since the lid comes down almost all the way to the bottom of the box, I didn't bother decorating the sides of the box, just the lid.  I finished off the top edges of the lid with some ribbon I had sitting on my desk.  I've had it forever, and finally managed to use it up!!  (I also used the last bit to tie a bow for the top.)  This box is surprisingly big.  My sister and I went shopping at an Outlet Mall on Monday and of course, we had to get some chocolate truffles at Lindt.  So, when I was looking for something to fill my box with, I thought of the truffles.  I think this box would fit 10 of them just about perfectly.  I had 7 (ate the other 3 already!) and there is plenty of room left.
I think it would also be perfect for a small gift, maybe jewelry?  For the lid with the window, I used a piece of acetate recycled from some stamp packaging.  It allows you to peak inside to see the yummy treats.  But I think the box would be equally cute with a solid top.  I wanted to create a wreath-like look to the top of my box, so I added stamped and die cut snowflakes that match the ones I stamped on the sides of the lid.  Added a bow and some rhinestones and it's finished!

Give Thanks

Happy Wednesday!  It's time for another challenge from The House That Stamps Built.  This week we have a fun Tic-Tac-Toe challenge for you:
No automatic alt text available.
I have to say that I think these are my favorite types of challenge because there are so many options!  I used the middle column (autumn colors, stitching: faux, and buttons.  I also used leaves, twine and thanks)
I almost always use a sketch for my cards, but this one came together in my head and I really like how it turned out.  The ribbon, which is really more of an olive green though it looks kind of like gray, was what I started with as it was on my desk and I have had it for a really long time.  The kraft layer was cut out with a stitched die and then I stamped the leaf image repeatedly around the edge (as I knew the center would  be covered up.  On the focal panel, I stamped the music background with Creamy Caramel.  It didn't stamp evenly, but that kind of added to the more rustic look I was going for.  Then I inked the leaf with yellow and sponged orange around the edges before stamping it.  I inked the edges of the panel with the Creamy Caramel and distressed them with my scissors.  I die cute the "thanks" twice and layered them together.  Before I adhered them to the card, I stamped the word give and then adhered the "thanks".  I added the ribbon and then checked the tic-tac-toe board and realized I needed to add a button.  Luckily, I had a good place for it!  The torn mulberry paper adds a soft touch and finishes it all off.
I hope you will play along with us this week; I'm looking forward to seeing what you create using our board.

Penguin Wedding

It's Saturday!!  That means it's time for another challenge from Di's Digi Designs.
The challenge this time is: Monochrome
And here is my card for your inspiration:
My husband's cousin is getting married at the beginning of January, so I decided to actually get ahead and make a card for her.  I was going to do a completely black and white card, but just couldn't used black flowers in the image and using all white would have been rather boring.  So, I decided to go with pink (and a little black because penguins are black and it's a neutral like white).  I printed out two images and a third one of the veil on vellum.  I colored the main image, then colored the top hat, bouquet, and flower headpiece on the second image.  I cut out the pieces from the second image and the veil from the vellum and adhered them onto the main image for a little bit of dimension and fun.  Since I had pearls sewn onto my veil, I added some liquid pearls to the little Mrs.' veil.  You can't see it in the photo, but I added clear Wink of Stella to the champagne glass.   My ribbon was recycled from who knows what, but it worked perfectly
I hope you get a chance to play along with us; I can't wait to see what you come up with.  Monochromatic can be hard, but it can be done!  Thanks for stopping by!

Two holiday cards

Happy Friday!!  It's time for another challenge from Jo's Scrap Shack.  As always, we are now an Anything Goes challenge.
Our sponsors this week the fabulous Bugaboo Stamps:

and
Sunny Studio Stamps

This is not my normal week to post a card for Jo's challenge, but there was some miscommunication a little while ago and I ended up with these adorable Bugaboo images that didn't get used.  So, rather than take advantage of Jody's generosity, I created two cards to go along with the challenge.  Now, the images I received are actually Halloween images, but since I don't celebrate Halloween, I got creative and turned them into something I can use.  My first card uses the sweet little kitty and by using Christmas colors, I changed him into an Elf kitten.  Doesn't he look like he would be a great help at Christmas time?
One of my children commented that it looked like a Santa cat, so I guess I did my job well!  For some extra fun, I created a shaker card with a new cover plate die I just received.
My second card uses an adorable stack of jack-o-lanterns.  I love pumpkins (and everything fall for that matter) and these are cute not scary, so I turned them into a fall card.
I can never get dark brown to photograph well, but the strip of ribbon is dark brown, not black.  I used some copper DMC floss to stitch around the pumpkin patterned paper layer, and used the same floss to criss-cross the ribbon for a fun touch.  The sentiment is a bit hard to make out.  It says "Happy Fall: thinking of you this autumn and always".  Sweet, huh?
I hope you will play along with us this week, I always love being inspired by what you create!  Thanks for stopping by!

Happy Wednesday!  It's time for another challenge from The House That Stamps Built.  This week is a Designer's Choice Challenge and Laurie has picked "Falling For You".  You can make a card with leaves or a fall/autumn card.  This card is completely one-layer.  I used my mini MISTI and selective stamping to stamp the leaf/pinecone image in the different fall colors.  Then I masked along the top and bottom of the image and stamped the postcard stamp.  Then I masked a thing strip along both the top and bottom and sponged on some dark brown ink to create a "mat" for the image.
I used the "accessory" sentiments from the "Thanks" cling set on the outside and used the main sentiment on the inside for a little something different.
I hope you will play along with us this week (actually, you now have all month to play along with us), I can't wait to see what you come up with.  And if you NEED any of the stamps I used today, there is a 10% off your ENTIRE order coupon in my left sidebar.

Skating Along

Oh, my goodness!!!  It's November already!  Where has this year gone?  Since it is the first of the month, it's time for another challenge from Crafty Hazelnut's Christmas Challenge Extra.  It's Anything Christmas-related goes and you have all month to play along with us.  Our sponsor is the fabulous Bugaboo Stamps.
Here is my card using the adorable "Penguin Winter Skate":
I just purchased the "Slide On Over" dies from Law Fawn, and they are really the reason I chose to use this image (other than it is soooo adorable!).  I wanted to create the action of the penguin skating along in the frosty air.  As you pull the little tab that says "Slide Me", the penguin skates along with his nice, cozy, warm scarf.
Isn't that so fun!!??  Love what you can do with these dies.  This is the second time I've used them, and it will NOT be the last.
There are less than two months left until Christmas, so it is time to get started on those Christmas cards, if you haven't done so already.  And if you have, keep up the good work and keep playing along with us.  Thanks for stopping by!

Supplies:
Stamps: Bugaboo Stamps "Little Penguin Winter Skate" digi; Lawn Fawn "Push Here" sentiment

Non-traditional Christmas

Hi, everyone!  It's my turn to share a Project of the Week on The House That Stamps Built blog and I'm going to show you how to create a bokeh background with stamped images.  It creates such a soft look and it's pretty fun, specially if you don't mind doing a lot of sponging.  Here are the things you will need:
-several coordinated ink colors: I used SU! Tempting Turquoise, Lovely Lilac and Green Galore dye inks plus MFT Gray Grout for image stamping
-white ink: I used SU! white craft ink
-ink daubers or sponges
-white card stock panel
-stamps: I used:
Repeat Impressions "Snowflake Solid (lg)", "Snowflake Solid (small)" and "Christmas"

Start out with one of your ink colors; sponging it in several places on your panel.  I chose Tempting Turquoise as it was my darkest color.
Sponge on your next color, overlapping in some areas.
Sponge on your next color filling up the rest of the white space.  It looks a little splotchy right now, due to the rough edges of my sponge daubers, but don't worry, it will be fixed!
I switched to sponge pieces and continued to sponge on the ink colors, darkening them, smoothing the color and blending all the colors together better.
Once you get your inks blended how you want them, start adding the white.  I used the sponge dauber to create different sized circles.  For the smaller circles, I simply pressed the inked dauber directly down onto the paper, like a stamp.  For the larger circles, I used the dauber in a circular motion to create various sized circles.  Overlap them here and there and make some darker by adding more ink over top of the ink already there.  The edges will soften as the ink dries.  Now, be patient and let your panel dry (I know from experience that it will make the next step easier!)
I used my light gray ink to stamp the large and small snowflakes onto the panel.  I used my mini MISTI because I knew I would have to stamp each image several times since the ink is so light.  I wanted them to be subtle which is why I chose the light ink, but I also wanted them to be seen.
After the panel dried completely, I turned it into my finished card.  As you can see, as the inks dried (specially that white craft ink) everything softened and blended together perfectly!  I am loving these non-traditional colors for Christmas!!
I finished it off with a bit of ribbon I've had forever, a vellum die cut snowflake topped with a recycled button, and some nuvo crystal drops.  Thanks for checking out my Project of the Week!
