Exciting News

So, I have some exciting news.  Exciting for me anyway!  I have been asked to join the Design Team over on the Lollipop Ladies Challenge Blog.  So exciting!  The challenges are fortnightly (I think that's the right word) on Wednesdays and my day to post is the second Thursday of the challenge--and that's today.  So please head on over to the blog and check out all the details.  The inspiration for the challenge this fortnight is Nerds with the option of glasses.
Remember these candies?  I don't think I have had nerds in forever!  I went with the colors of the box for my inspiration.  Then I found this adorable image from The Fairy Society and I just had to use it!  She's a "nerd" for sure, but she is cute!

Thanks for stopping by!  I hope you'll play along with us.

We just got back from attending the Black Belt Ceremony for two young people in our extended family (a brother and sister--to see the card for the boy, click here).  It is quite an accomplishment and we are proud of their hard work and determination.  It was really quite an impressive ceremony.  And of course, to celebrate, I had to make cards--where could you buy karate cards?

Ever heard that song "Everybody was Kung-fu fighting?"  If so, you know what I'm talking about.  If not, that's ok.  It was the inspiration song for this card.  Ok, maybe that and the fact that a boy in our "family" just completed his black belt training (his sister, too).  That's pretty impressive especially considering that they are 12 and 14.

Merry and Bright

This started out being a shaped card, but it is so tiny (or at least seems so) that I thought it would make a perfect tag for a Christmas gift.  It opens like a card, so a little message can be written in the inside.

When I saw this pumpkin carriage from Squigglefly, I knew I "had" to have it because it would go perfectly with this "Cinders" image from Flat Friends.  And they really are just perfect for each other.

Valentines

Let me start off by apologizing: there are several photos in this post, but they do all go together.  I homeschool my oldest daughter, so we don't get to have all the fun of making class valentines and giving them out to people at school.  This year, though, Valentine's Day fell on the day that we attend a storyhour at a local church.  The storyhour is for preschoolers (for my younger two) and there is a craft time led by a homeschooling mom for the school aged children.  So, we did get to make Valentine's this year.

This first picture show the little gifts we made for the leaders.  The one on the left is for the craft leader.  My daughter made the bracelet (she's 6 ok, so don't judge.) and I included a pair of earrings I made as well for both leaders plus two Dove dark chocolates.  Yumm!
This picture shows the gifts for the girls in the craft time class.  Once again my daughter made bracelets for each of the.  She also made little cards for all the kids all on her own.  She loves creating, just like momma.
These are for the boys: the car (with the greeting: You're 'Wheel-y' Cool!) is for the one lone boy in the craft class (we didn't think he would appreciate a bracelet) and the boys in the storyhour class all got bouncy balls and a chocolate.
For the little girls in storyhour, I made two different Valentines.  We have several that are right around 1 year old and I didn't think the mothers would appreciate candy for them, so I put in little plastic butterfly bracelets.  And for the older girls, little candy bracelets and a chocolate.  Let me tell you that they all were a big hit.

These are cupcakes I made for the craft class.  Aren't they cute?  Little (ok, actually quite LARGE) conversation hearts!  From the cupcake book "What's New Cupcake?"  The ideas in there are so adorable! And this one was pretty easy, too.!  And the bonus to all this is that I got to use up some paper that I thought I would NEVER use, and they all looked perfect!

Challenges:
Timeless Tuesday #207--put your heart on it
Tuesday Alchemy #50--My heart's all a flutter (hearts/wings)
Flutter by Wednesdays #227--hearts (with butterfly or fairy)

Inspired

My card today is for Papertrey Ink's challenge to be inspired by one of their designer's favorite projects from the past year.  Usually, Melissa Phillips' work, though beautiful, doesn't really speak to me.  She has a gorgeous shabby chic, vintagey and definitely girly style, and as you can see if you have looked at any of my cards, I do not.  But as soon as I saw the first picture on the left in her inspiration board, I was in love!!  I just absolutely love those orange felt flowers.  And the card layout is really awesome, too.   So, I changed up the colors and the flower material, but kept the layout.  And I love it!  Almost as much as the original. : )

I have to admit that this isn't one of my favorite cards.  It didn't turn out like I was thinking in my head.  Does that ever happen to you?  And to make matters worse, I used a sketch from a challenge that I discovered is already closed.  Arg.  But, hey, it happens.
