Father's Day

Happy Wednesday!!  It's time for another challenge from The House That Stamps Built.  As it is the 5th Wednesday of the month, we have a fabulous sketch for your inspiration:
Image may contain: text
And here is the card I created for your inspiration:
As soon as I saw the sketch, it reminded me of a frame and while I was creating a different card a couple weeks ago, I came across this woodgrain paper.  I thought they would work together perfectly to create a masculine card of some type and I decided on a Father's Day card.  I used screw head brads and even though it may look like I didn't really follow the sketch, I did!  I just used the same paper for the 4 "frame" panels.  You can see that a bit better in the photo below:
I went with the tool theme as it went with the woodgrain paper and I had the two corner "peg board" pieces in my bits and pieces stash.  I die cut the tools out of silver paper and finished off the screw drivers with some red card stock.  I had a tiny strip of the woodgrain paper left so I added it to the inside to fancy it up a bit.
Thanks for stopping by!  Make sure you hop over to the House blog for all the details and to see what the rest of the team created.  And if you need any of the stamps I used, make sure you check out the 10% off your entire order coupon over in my left sidebar.

Supplies:
Stamps: Repeat Impressions "A father is . . . " and "Father's Day"
Dies: Spellbinders "A2 Matting Basics A" rectangle; Taylored Expressions "All the fixings" and Lawn Fawn pegboard

Challenges:

Soul Music

A couple months ago, I was asked to be a guest designer for the C.R.A.F.T. challenge blog team!  Today begins the challenge I am guest designing for!  Yay, so exciting!  The challenge for this week is: Father's Day/Male and the sponsor is The Paper Shelter:
And here is the card I created for your inspiration:
The Paper Shelter has tons of fabulous images, including this one!  I won it a while back and this is the first time I've had it out to play.  I think it will be a birthday card either for my brother-in-law or his grandfather.  They are both very good pianists and I think they would appreciate the musical theme of it.  I used a musical score stamp for the background.  For the red panel, I scored it several times horizontally to mimic the pleats on a cumberbund.  It actually started because I had a pieces of red card stock that was scored in one place; I just added more score lines to go along with it.
Thanks for stopping by!  Make sure you head over to the C.R.A.F.T. blog for the full details and to see what the Design Team created.

Supplies:
Stamps: The Paper Shelter "Music Director" digi; PaperTrey Ink "Rhythm and Soul" sentiment; Hero Arts music background stamp
Dies: Spellbinders "A2 Matting Basics A" largest panel, image panel and sentiment panel (trimmed a little to fit the sentiment better)

Challenges:

Happy Wednesday!!  It's time for another challenge from The House That Stamps Built and this week it is a fan favorite: Anything Goes!! And here is the card I created for your inspiration:
It seems as if I am always in a rush to create my DT card, and once again, that was the case this week.  So, I needed something simple and quick.  I already had the pattern paper strip in my bits and pieces stash, so I just needed to stamp the main panel and put it together.  Luckily, it did come together quite quickly.  I finished it off with some nuvo drops.

Thanks for stopping by!  I hope you will hop over to the House blog to see the rest of the DT's creations and then get inky and play along with us.  And if you need any of the stamps I used, check out my 10% off your ENTIRE order coupon code over in my left sidebar.

Isn't this little guys super sweet!!??  I picked some fun papers (most of which are scraps) and bright embellishments to create a masculine birthday card that I think could work for a guy of any age.  The little bit of orange ribbon was in my bits and pieces stash; it was the perfect size for adding this fun little tab.

Anniversary Love

Happy Wednesday!!  It's time for another challenge from The House That Stamps.  This week we have a beautiful inspiration photo for you:
Image may contain: food
Mmm . . . don't you love those colors?!  So fresh and spring-like!
And here is the card I created:
As you can see, I went with the color scheme.  We have two anniversaries in the family at the end of May, so I took the opportunity to use these beautiful swans to create an anniversary card.  I also used my favorite Flower Power Separates flowers and leaves to create the background.  And the little banner behind the image is actually two pieces of paper that were in my bits and pieces stash.  Oh, and the oval was also in the bits and pieces stash.  It was just the perfect size for the swans.
Thanks for stopping by!  Make sure you head on over to The House blog to see what the rest of the Design Team has done with this photo.  And if you "need" any of the stamps I used, check out my 10% off your entire order coupon code over in my lift sidebar.

Scrap Bits

It's my day to share my Pick of The Week on The House That Stamps Built blog.  I'm a big fan of using up my "bits and pieces." These are little bits that are leftover from making other cards: bits of ribbon, die cuts that I didn't end up using or I used the negative instead of the positive, etc.  I keep them in a stack on my desk so they are always in front of me.  This is what my stash looks like right now:
Some of the pieces I know I will use without much difficulty, but there are always some that I don't think I will ever use.    Sometimes I know what I want to do with certain pieces and other times, like today, I find a sketch that reminds me of a piece or two I have in the stash.  I really liked this sketch from Try Stampin' on Tuesday:
And here are the pieces I pulled out of my stash to work with it:
And here is the card I created:
I used "Vase of Tulips" and "I'm so glad . . ." to create this beautiful Mother's Day card from my Mother-in-law.   The background was created by embossing a sheet of vellum.  I don't think I've done that before and it is sooooo gorgeous!!!  I finished everything off with some yellow rhinestones to pull in some more of the yellow from the patterned strip.
I had time to create another card, and I had just seen this sketch from MFT:
I forgot to take a photo of the two items I pulled out for this one: the white fishtail banner on the top right and the bit of black ribbon on the top left:
And here is what I came up with:
I used "Distant Glow" (it says, "I thought of you today as I gazed longingly at the distant glow on the horizon . . . I assume it was caused by the candles on your birthday cake.  Hope it was yummy!) to create this fun masculine birthday card.  I think I will probably send it to my brother or perhaps my cousin.  They are both younger than me, so I'm sure they will appreciate it, ha!  I used a sunburst stencil create the "distant glow", the black ribbon to show the horizon, and a number impression plate to emboss the background.
So, there you have it, 2 cards and 4 pieces gone from the bits and pieces stash!!  I hope this inspires you to look at your "bits and pieces stash" and see what you can use.

Tidings of Comfort and Joy

Happy Friday!!  It's time for another challenge from Jo's Scrap Shack.  As always, we are now an Anything Goes challenge and our sponsor for the week is Lemon Shortbread.

And here is the card I created:
I've been feeling like I need to get a move on making my Christmas cards and it just so happened that I had this beautiful image to work with.  I had the ornament on the right already in my bits and pieces stash (I used some red flocking and gold glitter to create it), so I die cut a second one out of dark red card stock for the sentiment.  The patterned papers strips were the perfect size, I just had to trim some length off them to fit the card.

Yummy cupcake

Happy Wednesday!!  It's time for another challenge from The House That Stamps Built.  This week we have a fun Tic Tac Toe board for you:
No photo description available.
Here is what I created for your inspiration:
I used the center row straight across: Pink & Yellow/Shimmer or Sparkle/Stitching: Real or Faux.  I also used the diagonal starting in the top left: Mom's/Shimmer or Sparkle/Die Cuts.  I happened to have all the papers (which are all little bits of scraps) sitting on my desk and they were perfect for this challenge.  I added my sparkle with some rhinestones and some micro fine glitter on the cupcake frosting.
And here is a picture of my helper:
I take my pictures in my bathroom because I have really bright lighting in there (definitely the best in the house).  Well, the cat thinks she must drink out of the sink faucet.  So, while I was taking my pictures, she thought she needed a drink and then she thought she needed to check out my card and, as you can see, knocked it over.  I actually think she was trying to scratch her chin on it.

Thanks for stopping by!  Make sure you head on over to The House blog to see what the rest of the Design Team has done with this photo.  And if you "need" any of the stamps I used, check out my 10% off your entire order coupon code over in my lift sidebar.

Gift Card Holder

It's Saturday!!  That means it's time for another challenge from Di's Digi Designs.
The challenge this time is: Anything But a Card
And here is my creation for your inspiration:
It is a gift card holder that I used for giving a gift card to my sister for her birthday.  I like to give gift cards as the recipient can get what they want, but it always feels a little lame to just give a gift card.
I started by stamping the background with a French script stamp, then embossed it with an embossing folder.  Afterwards, I used an orange ink pad to swipe some color over the raised areas.
I used a gift card holder die on the inside to actually hold it in place.
A couple weeks ago, I created a card (you can see all the details here) and I made the gift card holder to match the card.  Here they are together:
Such a girly set!  I just love it!!

I hope you will get a chance to play along with us; I can't wait to see what you create.  And make sure you hop over to the Di's Digital Designs blog to see what the rest of the team has made for this challenge.

Supplies:

Joy to the World

I had a few more free minutes to just play yesterday and I managed to create a Christmas card and use something from my bits and pieces stash.  Bonus!!  I've also been working on getting my clear stamp sets organized a little better.  I bought a large lot of empty CD jewel cases at a yard sale last summer and I finally bought a label maker, so I've been putting the clear sets in cases and labeling them.  During the process, I've been reminded of a few sets that I have that haven't even seen any ink even though I have had them for quite a while.  I was able to use two of these sets on this card.  Double Bonus!!  Anyway, here is my card:
The ornament die cut was the piece that was in my bits and pieces stash.  I started by coloring it blue with a marker and then stamping the world map in  a medium green.  Then I just had to cut the accessory pieces.  I mounted the ornament on a circle of vellum to give it a little distinction from the background.

Supplies:
Stamps: Altenew "Mini Atlas" world map; JustRite Stampers "Christmas Applique Vintage Labels Seven" sentiment
Dies: Elizabeth Craft Designs  "Beautiful Baubles"; Spellbinders "Classic Circles, large"
Cuttlebug: Snowflake embossing folder
