Penguin Love

Happy April, and welcome to a new month long challenge from Crafty Hazelnut's Christmas Challenge Extra.  As always, it is Anything Goes as long as it is Christmas related.  Here is my card for your inspiration:
Ooo . . . don't you love that two-tone bow???  I used my Bow Easy tool to create it.  I've never tried this before, but I will definitely be doing it again.  Love the look!  The "snow hills" were in my bits and pieces stash, I just inked up the edges with some silver ink so they would stand out better.  I cut the penguin out and popped it up with foam tape.  Then I added the little red hearts to his hands; so cute!

Challenges:

Happy Birthday

Hello, Everyone!  Welcome to another What If? Wednesday challenge from The House That Stamps Built.  These week it is a fan favorite: Anything Goes.  Here is my card for your inspiration:
I started off with the compass rose, stamped the metro map background, then finished it off with a stenciled brick background. I masked the birthday stamp so I could stamp the words side by side instead of top and bottom.  This is going to be the birthday card for my dad for his birthday next week.  I think it has a fabulous masculine feel to it.  I hope you will get a chance to play along.  And remember, if you "need" any of the stamps you see, I have a 10% off your entire purchase code on my left sidebar.

Supplies:
Stamps: Repeat Impressions "5812W Compass", "5814W Metro Map", and "1113W Birthday"
Dies: MFT "Blueprints 12" stitched circle and "Blueprints 13" stitched rectangle
MFT brick wall stencil

Challenges:

Easter Blessings

I won this Pussy Willow stamp set from DRS Designs recently and as soon as it arrived, I was in love!!  I picked it out, so obviously, I liked it, but I couldn't see how beautiful it was until I was holding it in my hands.  I used it to create an Easter card for my Grandmother.
I used the MFP challenge to create a layered mountain-fold card, basically, the base of the card is a single layer (A2 size in this case) and then the "card" part is cut a bit smaller and layered on top.
I outlined the stamp with my SU! blender pen and some aqua ink.  I LOVE the soft definition it gives.  Since pussy willows are fuzzy, I added some glue to each of the buds and adhered some flock.  You can see it a little in the photo below.  It really adds a fun touch, I think.
The ruffled ribbon was recycled from a dress my daughters outgrew and was too stained to pass on to someone else.

Challenges:
DRS Designs--B words (I used brown {card base, ink and ribbon}, butterfly, "Blessings" and buds)
Crafty Gals #64--Easter or Spring (both!)
Penny's Challenges #270--anything goes
Mod Squad--springtime
Crafting By Designs--3 or more layers
Clear It Out--theme: Easter stash: buttons
MFP #12--layered mountain fold
Jo's Scrap Shack #130--Happy Easter
In The Pink #90--Spring Flowers (pussy willows aren't exactly flowers, but they are the flowering part of the plant, so I think it counts.  It looks a little brown-ish in the pictures, but my main panel is a nice dark rose color)
Crafty Creations #311--spring fever
Word Art Wednesday #223--anything goes
Crafty Calendar--mum's day/special female (my grandmother)

Supplies:
Stamps: DRS Designs "Pussy Willow"; Flourishes "Easter Blessings"
Dies: MFT "Blueprints 12" sentiment rectangle

Exciting News

See that image up there?  Yep, I'm joining the Design Team at Jo's Scrap Shack!!  Jo contacted me about a month and asked if I wanted to join her team.  Yes!!  I mean, how do you say no to that?!  I'm so excited!!  There are several new ladies joining the team.  You can see the full list of Designers (Current and New) over on Jo's Blog.  She's also having an online stamp yard sale with a bunch of fabulous stamp sets, so make sure you check that out while you're over there.    My first challenge designing for Jo will be April 8th, I'd love to have you pop back in and check it out.

Birthday Box

The other day I shared a birthday card I had made (you can see it here), and here is the box that coordinates.  I used the same sketch and most of the same elements, just switching up the sentiments.
Here is a photo of the card and the box together.  So fun!
And here is the little gift the box is holding:
The box was made using a template from My Time Made Easy by Lauren Meader (unfortunately she closed her shop a couple years ago), but I created the insert myself to hold the necklace.

Sweet Shepherd Boy

Welcome to another What If? Wednesday challenge from The House That Stamps Built.  This week we have a sketch for your inspiration:
I love a good sketch, and this is a good one!  It's a great starting point and you can go a bit more simple like mine, or you can dress is up with lots of patterned papers and embellishments.
I created a Christmas card since I had a big shortage this past year.  And I hadn't gotten to use this sweet image yet.  The strip of dotted paper and the sentiment strip were in the (decreasing) pile of a Christmas stash I am trying to finish up.  The dotted strip was the inspiration for my color combo and also for the vintage-y style.  Head on over to The House blog to see how the rest of the DT interpreted this sketch; all of them are fabulous!

Best Wishes

Wendy W., the owner and designer of Repeat Impressions is having a birthday this week.  I created this card for her using some fabulous Repeat Impressions stamps.
This is the first time I've used this little butterfly.  I have used the larger one a lot and I LOVE it, I think this little one will be high up there on the list, too.  I heat embossed the sentiment with clear embossing powder after inking it up with versamark and then chocolate brown before stamping it.  The versamark helps keep the other ink wet enough to work with the embossing powder.  The white circle was in my bits and pieces stash, I trimmed it down a little to fit my image and the sketch better.

Supplies:
Stamps: Repeat Impressions "5123 W. Butterfly Sil. (sm)" and "1103 W. Best Wishes"
Dies: Spellbinders "Classic Circles, large"

Challenges:
YNS #35--sketch

Shy Beauty

Welcome!  It's time for another challenge from the Love To Scrap Challenge Blog.  This week it is a fan favorite: Anything Goes!  We have 3 fabulous sponsors:

I was given this gorgeous image from The East Wind: Aurora Daisy.  Isn't she stunning!!??  The image actually has a black line frame around it, but I trimmed it off (mostly by accident).  She is so sultr , I just had to go all girly with this card.  A lot of distressed layers and even some layered die cuts.
The bit of lace is a piece I "rescued" from one of the shirts my daughters had outgrown.  I always pass the good clothes along to a cousin, but make sure to remove anything that can be reused from the clothes that need to be thrown away.  I've gotten lots of buttons and some lace, even some zippers (which are perfect for zipper flowers), from doing this. The word paper is from an Encyclopdia set that my parents were throwing away.  I took one of the volumes just for this purpose.  It's pretty old, so it has that nice "vintage" look to the paper.  I altered my Fleur De Lis Squares die, but cutting out two, layering them and trimming off any overlapping oramentation to create a rectangle from a square die.  You can barely tell where they overlap.

Challenges:
Lacy Sunshine--anything goes
Kraftin Kimmie Stamps--anything goes (and I used the monthly sketch)

Hiding in My Craft Room #243--blending (I used copics, spectrum noir markers and a sponge dauber for my blending)

Cat's Out

Time for another What If? Wednesday challenge from The House That Stamps Built.  This week we have an adorable inspiration photo for you:
There's so much in that photo to inspire you, the colors, the patterns, the kitty, the splats . . .  Here's how I was inspired:
I tried a fun new (to me) water coloring technique using dye inks and my clear stamp blocks.  Then I watered down some ink and splatted it on the background.  I heat embossed the cat and balloons with white powder after I let the paper dry completely.  I masked the sentiment so only the top line stamped on my banner.  I masked it again to put the rest of the sentiment on the inside of the card.

Supplies:
Stamps: Repeat Impressions "5116 I. Cat Sitting Sil.", "2516 G. The Cat's Out . . ." and "5126 W. Balloom Sil. (sm)"
Dies: MFT "Blueptrints 13" stitched rectangle and banner"

Little Peacock

I won this image a month or so ago, and I thought she was just so cute I printed her out without a real plan in mind.  I've had this polka dotted ribbon (a piece of it) in my bits and pieces stash for a while and have tried unsuccessfully to use it on 2 other cards within the past month.  It just didn't work, but I made it work on this one. : )  It was the inspiration for the color combo.  I pieced her dress using white vellum that I inked up with green, turquoise and lavender inks then layered them as if they were sheer layers on her dress.  I used the same inks to sponge the background after I heat embossed the feathers with white powder.

Birthday Greetings

Hi!  It's time for another What If Wednesday Challenge from The House That Stamps Built.  This week it is a Designer Choice and the challenge is to make a card with more than one fold.  My card is sort of a flip card.  A while ago, someone gave me a whole bunch of card making supplies and there were a bunch of these blank card bases cut and folded in the stash.  So far, this is only the second one I've used, but I have really liked how each card turned out.  It's hard to get a good photo of the front of these cards so I took several:
Don't you just love that patterned vase?!  I think it turned out really pretty and it really highlights those gorgeous tulips.  The large butterfly was in my bits and pieces stash, so I just punched out the two little ones to go along with it.  I added a small rhinestone to each for a little sparkle and the gold corner piece because that corner needed just a little something.
Here is is starting to open:
And here is the inside with a nice little place for the sentiment and a small handwritten note:
I even decorated the inside of the card following my Project of the Week tutorial that was posted on The House blog on Monday.  Actually, this card was in the inspiration for that tutorial.

Supplies:
Stamps: Repeat Impressions "1317W Vase of Tulips", "1113W Birthday"; "9206W Beautiful Days"
Dies/punches: Verve "Mini Classy Label"; MFT corner bracket and "Fancy Flourish"; Martha Stewart butterfly punch

Fluttering By

This is another card that started out with a scrap of ribbon that I didn't end up using. : )  That ribbon has lavender, turquoise and green dots on it and was the inspiration for using this beautiful soft lavender ink.  But when I got it all finished, the white background of the ribbon was just two bland.  I had this green organza piece in my bits and pieces stash and it was the perfect combo between enough color and enough softness to match with the rest of the card.
I stamped the background with wild wisteria ink from SU!  I heat embossed the butterfly with white embossing powder and sponged the same wisteria ink over the image.  LOVE how it turned out.

Supplies:
Stamps: Skipping Stone Designs "Timeless Textures" background, "Victorian Summer" butterfly and "Dandelion Wishes" sentiment

Get Together

It's time for another challenge from The Love To Scrap Challenge Blog.  We hop you enjoyed our Blog Hop celebrating our 3rd Birthday last week.  Thanks to those who hopped along with us.  This challenge is: Bare Necessities--use no more than two embellishments.
Our sponsors are:

Angie's Cards & Digis

I was given this "Pumpkin Spice Latte" image from Karleigh Sue to work with.  And I can see her colored up in rich autumn colors to go with the name of the image, but it's getting close to spring here, people, and she needed to look the part.  I started the color combo based on a ribbon, that I didn't end up using.  But I still liked the color combo and sent with it anyway.
I have to say, that I would definitely wear a pretty turquoise coat like this one!  The bit of blue ribbon was in my bits and pieces stash, and because Leslie said we couldn't use more than two embellies, I had to add the large clear rhinestone to finish things off.

Challenges:
If You Give a Crafter A Cookie #38--inspiration photo (I was inspired by the colors)

Lacy Sunshine--anything goes

Let Your Dreams Fly

Hello, Everyone! It's Heather with my Project of the Week for The House That Stamps Built.  I was drawing a blank on what to share with you this time, until I was making a different card and added a little bit extra to dress up the inside and I figured I would do a quick little project about decorating the inside of a card.  I usually don't decorate the inside of my cards, but every once in a while I do like to add something to make it more special.  Here's my finished card:
The base layer was stamped with Repeat Impressions "Sheet Music" stamp and the main panel uses the "Dandelion Breeze" stamp and the "Dreams Take Flight" sentiment.  I stamped the image in versamark and embossed it with white powder.  Then I sponged a bit of aqua around the image to really make it pop.  Ok, so on to my project.  Here's what you need:

  • your finished card
  • a light and dark ink (I used two grays)
  • your stamps (I used the same image as the front and a second sentiment)
  • I used a stitched rectangle to match the front of the card and the same ribbon as on the front

Start by stamping your sentiment in the darker ink color.  I used "Beautiful Days" and a dark gray.
Then stamp you image in the lighter color ink.  You want to be able to see it, but don't want it to distract from the sentiment.  I used the dandelion image and a light gray ink.  It's a little hard to see in the photo, but it is just enough to add some interest.
I finished it off by wrapping a strip of ribbon around the bottom of the panel.
And then adhered it to the inside of the card.  It's a fun and pretty way to make your card just a little bit more special.
I hope you enjoyed my project  and I hope it inspires you to decorate the inside of your cards once in a while, too.

Supplies:
Stamps: Repeat Impressions "Sheet Music", "Dandelion Breeze", "Dreams Take Flight" and
"Beautiful Days"
Dies: MFT "Blueprints 13" stitched rectangle; Spellbinders "A2 Matting Basics B" rectangle

Challenges:
If You Give a Crafter a Cookie #38--inspiration photo (that turquoise/aqua color grabbed me right away!)
Fussy & Fancy #158--Shabby Fun with Bingo (I used the 2nd row: something old {the ribbon I've had for years), something new {first time I've used this dandelion image}, frills and/or lace {sheer ribbon} and pretty pearls too)

Beautiful Butterfly

Welcome!  It's time for another What If? Wednesday challenge from The House That Stamps Built.  This week we have a color combo for you to use and, boy, it's a beautiful one!
At first I wasn't so sure about it, but then I found these papers in my stash and I really fell in love!  I actually used all four colors.  I'm not much of a kraft person (and I don't actually have very much) so I went with the brown.  Then I saw this kraft banner in my bits and pieces stash and knew it was perfect for my sentiment!!
Oh, the pink ribbon was in my bits and pieces stash, even tied in the knot already!!

Dies: Spellbinders "Classic Circles, large"; MFT "Blueprints 13" banner
